This morning I was joined by our current District Councillor for Measham North Cllr Andrew Woodman. Our meeting was designed to brief me of the ongoing issues in our Ward and where attention is currently being focussed.
Rosebank Garden was one of the places we discussed.
Despite being in Measham almost every day for the last decade or so, Rosebank Garden had never made it on to my radar. And no wonder.
I can describe it one of two ways and each would be accurate at present. They are as follows:
In the negative sense, I could suggest it is a dark and dingy, overgrown mess. Uninviting, and perhaps the home of a mean bear, a wolf, or a Highway Rat from a children’s story book. You might even find a lady stirring something in a big cauldron… I could go on, but you get my drift.
However, in the positive sense, I do describe it as a beautiful Brick-Walled-Garden, no doubt crafted by the people of our area using the Sands and Clays quarried right here in North West Leicestershire. It is full of ancient trees with accents of Ironwork befitting the most proud of communities.
So let’s draw on the positive. If I close my eyes for a moment and fast forward through a short period of Tree Surgeon’s vans, some serious spade work and a bit of general graft, I see the arrival of some beautiful roses to pop colour against our Red Measham Bricks, Sunlight cascading through the ancient trees onto the grassy floors and the arrival of nicely heeled footsteps.
Those footsteps are perhaps coming to a local farmers market, a series of pop up events supporting our wonderful local businesses or maybe just a chance to enjoy a nice marmalade sandwich on a bench in the sun.
It’s a lovely little spot. Rosebank Garden should absolutely be better than it is. Elect me, Paul Lees your Conservative Party Candidate for Measham North on 4th May 2023 and I’ll get straight to work trying to make that happen.
